Deforestation: Drivers, Impact, Regulation and Mitigation - 19 March 2024

Join us in Hong Kong for this Important seminar.

Taking place on the main stage in Hall 3C, we will be moderating a panel of industry experts to take a look at the priority area of deforestation and the impact of the EU Deforestation Regulation on our industry. The Agenda includes:

This is the first time that the fair has taken place in Hong Kong since 2019 and we look forward to the homecoming!

SLF End of Year Partner Meeting - 12 December 2023

Our end of Year Partner meeting will take place at the University of Northampton in their Leathersellers’ Hide.

This great location is the perfect setting for a round up and review of SLF’s year and how we are continuing to support the industry in its endeavours for a more sustainable future. 
 

Following the meeting there will be a networking opportunity from 5.00 pm to 6.30 pm with drinks and a buffet.

This year we are opening the meeting up for non-partners too, as there are important new regulations that will have far reaching consequences for our industry and we want to inform as many people as possible on how they can prepare to meet the new requirements. UzCharmExpo 2023 - 18-20 October 2023

The Sustainable Leather Foundation is looking forward to attending the UzCharm Expo in Uzbekistan from the 18th to the 20th October 2023.
 

The specialized exhibition of the leather, footwear and fur industry demonstrates the production capabilities across all regions of Uzbekistan and provides a platform for industry specialists from different countries to come together and share best practices.

More than 1,000 uzbek and foreign companies take part in the exhibition every year. UzCharm Expo is considered one of the largest exhibitions in Central Asia in the field of leather, footwear and the fur industry. The extensive geography of visitors is represented by such countries as Great Britain, Italy, Germany, India, Turkey, Spain, Poland, Russia, Belarus etc and over the course of the three days the exhibition is expected to welcome over 10,000 visitors.

BLLISS - 12th -14 October 2023

The Sustainable Leather Foundation is looking forward to attending the Bangladesh Leather Footwear and Leathergoods International Sourcing Show (BLLISS-2023)
from the 12th to the 14th October 2023.
 

Running since 2017, this will be the 4th edition of BLISS which is fast becoming a must-attend event staple on the calendar for the leather industry.  During this year’s event, Deborah will participate in the seminar on Leather: The Truly Sustainable Material and will also be introduced the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh during the inauguration of the show.  During the rest of the 3 days, Deborah will be available at the Austan stand, so if anyone would like to meet with her please feel free to drop by and say hello!  More information about the show program can be found here:  

Lineapelle Milan - Hall 11 V27 - 19-21 September 2023

The SLF team will  be attending Lineapelle Milan on the 19th – 21st of September 2023.

ACLE - APLF Shangai - 30th August 2023

SLF and APLF are co-hosting a 2 hour seminar during the ACLE to discuss the introduction of new legislation and what it means for our industry.

Ecotan by Silvateam have kindly sponsored this event to enable us to provide simultaneous translation in English and Chinese so that delegates will have the best opportunity to learn about the upcoming requirements and how we can support industry to meet these challenges.

University of Northampton Sustainability Summit 2023

Held across two days, the UON Sustainability Summit provides a platform which brings together academia, businesses, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders to identify shared sustainability challenges (environmental, social and governance) mainly within but not limited to, the food/drink, logistics and footwear sectors, and devise a roadmap to address these challenges. Furthermore, this event will provide an opportunity for networking across sectors, which will help build lasting partnerships to pursue actionable solutions to the sustainability challenges which are identified.

As a higher education institution, the University of Northampton is well placed to play a central role in catalysing partnerships and much needed collaboration between stakeholders. The University has ample research and consultancy expertise within the area of Sustainability. Through its various research groups, centres and institutes, the University of Northampton has a strong track record of working collaboratively with external organisations to address sustainability challenges.

Lineapelle: Tuesday 20th - Thursday 22nd September 2022

The Sustainable Leather Foundation is looking forward to attending Lineapelle Milan next week on the 20th to the 22nd of September.
 
We will be exhibiting in Hall 9, Stand R17, and would love to see as many of you as possible there!
 

Lineapelle is one of the most important international exhibitions dedicated to leather, accessories, components, synthetics and models for footwear, leather goods, garments and furniture.

Launched in 1981, it has become the most qualified international exhibition of leather and accessories, components, synthetics for footwear, leather goods, garments and furniture.

The event takes place twice a year, in February for the summer and September for the winter collections, at the Milan exhibition centre.

 

IULTCS Euro Congress Vicenza 2022: 18th-21st September 2022

The next Leather Generation 

The topics to be discussed are: 

  • New developments in chemicals for the Leather tanning industry
  • Innovative technologies for Leather manufacturing processes
  • Chemicals and Leather test methods: new developments/approaches
  • Focus on environmental aspects ( e.g. LCA, by-product, wastewater, emission)

SLF Advisory Board Meeting 28th-29th of June 2022

Following 18 months of video conference meetings under COVID restrictions, the SLF Advisory Board will hold its first in-person meeting in June.

This 2 day meeting will bring together our voluntary Advisory Board members who each represent different areas of the leather value chain. We will spend 2 days discussing our strategic direction and industry needs to agree the Foundation’s priorities for the coming year.

This is an internal, by-invitation meeting.

Our Technical Director, Katie Kutskill, will be presenting at the American Leather Chemists Association meeting in June.

The ALCA meets annually and aims to:

  • Promote the advancement of the knowledge of science and engineering especially in regard to their application to problems facing the leather and leather products industries; encourage and promote the full use of science and engineering in their applications to the leather and leather product industries
  • To publish the result of investigations and research dealing with the above objectives
  • To maintain a set of official methods for the evaluation of leather, leather products, and materials used in their manufacture.

Auto-Tech Detroit: June 8th

Our Technical Director Katie Kutskill will be speaking at the AutoTech: Detroit Event in June. 

AutoTech: Detroit brings together the full automotive tech industry to immerse attendees in the future of automotive, by showcasing the newest tech and the latest vehicles. We gather the automotive and technology communities like no other event. 

AutoTech: Detroit is created by the industry, for the industry. Research is conducted at scale across the entire AutoTech ecosystem, made unique with the TU and Wards expert touch.

Our show is a celebration of developments and achievements within the automotive tech industry. During the event we will be hosting the Informa Tech Automotive Awards the Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX Awards, award-winning vehicle displays & tours, and Automotive Inspire Interviews.

APLF Abu Dhabi: Wednesday 30th March – Friday 1st April 2022

After a gap of three years since its last edition in Hong Kong in 2019, the world’s leading and most international trade fair for the leather industry, APLF, is set to return as a Special Edition in Dubai, UAE, to be held at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) from 30 March – 1 April 2022.

The Organisers estimate approximately 500 exhibiting companies occupying some 20,000 square meters of exhibition space with 15 national pavilions from Brazil, Egypt, France, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, UK and USA.

SLF is delighted to be attending APLF in Dubai at the end of March, more details about this event are to follow!

  • The SLF Transparency Dashboard™. This system is the culmination of many months of development and time spent to craft an inclusive and accessible tool that the whole leather value chain will benefit from.
  • The SLF Audit Standard. Looking at all elements of sustainability – Environmental, Social and Governance
  • Collaboration Hubs. A platform that is open to everyone to discuss areas of priority for collective action.
  • Our future plans to widen our value to other stake-holders
